to be as exact as possible: we’ve been here for 2 1/4 years. this means we’ve had 3 thanksgivings. we’re gearing up for our third pac-west christmas. and i’m in eager anticipation of my third spring break.
BUT.
the cherry on top of all of these traditions remains one that i’ve started on my own. and i think it says so much about me. yes folks. it is here again. the ANNUAL INVITE ONLY Norstrom shopping event. it’s tonight and it’s been the only thing getting my through my first month of unemployement. i first wrote about it here and will continue to write about it. after two years, i’ve worked out all the kinks and now know:
a) that there is a science behind what you wear (tights + camisole - any difficult buttons = the perfect outfit for trying on clothes w/o using the dressing room)
b) where the champagne/beer table is located (=less time spent in search of the caterers)
c) the location of the kitchen
d) how much to drink/not drink (major faux paux to cry in Nordstrom. learned that one the first year)
e) traffic tends to bottleneck at the makeup counters, jewelry, shoes and fancy ladies department. so, stick to mens, juniors, coats, and save shoes for the end.

tonight marks the first night that J. is coming with me. to further emphasize what a great man he is: he got out of work early so i would have someone to go with me. i think he’s kind of excited! my whole day has revolved around this evening. seriously - there was a nap scheduled, homework time scheduled, appropriately timed small - but well balanced - meals, shower and hair washing, dog walking, blogging, and t.v. washing. i’ve got 73 minutes of activity before i have to get ready. set. go.
